STUDENT / PARENT / SCHOOL COMPACT

Salida Union School District believes that quality education is a product of educational responsibilities being met by the learner, the parent, and the school. The degree to which these responsibilities are met largely determines the quality of education which is achieved.

Student's Rights:

To attend school, unless removed under due process, as specified in the Education Code.
To attend school in a secure academic and social climate, free of fear and violence.
To enjoy the full benefit of teachers' efforts, undiluted by disruptive students.
To be fully informed of school rules and regulations.

Student's Responsibilities:

To attend school and classes regularly and to be on time.
To be prepared for class with appropriate materials and work.
To respect the rights of school personnel, fellow students, and the public in general.
To demonstrate pride in the appearance of school buildings and grounds.
To deliver and return all school forms signed by parents as required.
To become fully informed of school rules and regulations and to abide by them.

The Parent's Responsibilities:

To understand the educational program being offered to their child.
To send the child to school, except when ill or otherwise legally excused.
To provide a quiet time for the child to do his / her homework when assigned.
To insist that the child do his / her homework.
To be available to assist the child in his / her school work and other school related matters.
To attend school conferences on the child's progress.
To support the school's decision if it is necessary to help the child make up his / her deficiencies.
To sign and return referrals, detentions, and progress reports.
To pick up students at the stated time from field trips and dances.
To become familiar with school policies and procedures.

The School's Responsibilities:

To provide a safe and secure environment conducive to learning.
To provide a meaningful educational program for students.
To establish and enforce standards of expectations.
To inform each student and his / her parents about the school's educational expectations.
To offer an educational program which provides students with the opportunity to meet these expectations.
To determine carefully whether the student is meeting these expectations.
To periodically inform the student and his / her parents about the student's progress.
To hold students accountable for meeting these expectations.
